Combined Fire Protection System Installation – Shepparton

Completed: December 2025
Site: Challenger Valves Manufacturing & Warehouse Facility, Shepparton
Overview
FWSR Group was engaged by Challenger Valves, an Australian-owned manufacturer, supplier and distributor of valves and actuation equipment, to deliver a major combined fire protection system installation as part of their relocation to a new, purpose-built facility in Shepparton.
The project required a fully integrated wet and dry fire solution to protect a large warehouse footprint, office areas and fire-rated separation zones, while meeting all applicable Australian Standards and compliance requirements.

The challenge

The scale and complexity of the new Challenger Valves facility required close coordination between multiple fire protection systems, trades and contractors.

Key challenges included:

  • Delivering a fully integrated combined fire system across a large industrial site
  • Delivering a large, combined fire system incorporating sprinkler, drencher, pump, tank and detection infrastructure across a complex industrial site
  • Working within a tight construction program, alongside other contractors
  • Ensuring system performance, redundancy and compliance for a high-value manufacturing environment

Our solution

  • FWSR Group delivered a comprehensive fire protection solution incorporating both wet fire and dry fire systems.

  • Our scope included the installation of a commercial sprinkler system, a drencher system for fire shutters, and the pump and tank infrastructure forming the backbone of the site’s wet fire protection system. The pumps were designed to support both the sprinkler system and the hydrant and hose reel network, which was installed in close coordination with Admoor Plumbing to ensure seamless integration.

  • A key feature of the project was the collaboration with Challenger Valves themselves, with more than 30 Challenger-supplied valves installed throughout the system. These included pump suction and discharge valves, monitored tank valves and sprinkler stop valves, all compliant with current fire standards and fully interfaced back to the fire panel.

  • On the dry fire side, our electrical team installed an addressable fire detection and warning system in accordance with AS 1670.1, incorporating photoelectric detection, occupant warning speakers, addressable strobes and automated fire roller door integration. All field devices and monitored valves report back to the fire indicator panel, providing full system visibility and fault diagnostics.

Collaboration and delivery

The project was delivered alongside Crows Constructions and a number of local contractors, requiring close collaboration and coordination throughout the build. While the installation presented challenges typical of large-scale industrial projects, these became valuable learning opportunities that helped refine our delivery processes and strengthen future outcomes.

Ongoing support and compliance

Following commissioning and handover, the installed systems provide Challenger Valves with a compliant, reliable and fit-for-purpose fire protection solution designed for long-term performance and operational resilience.

Results

  • Fully integrated combined wet and dry fire protection system
  • Compliant installation to Australian Standards
  • Redundant water supply via dual fire tanks
  • Seamless integration between sprinkler, hydrant and detection systems
  • High-visibility installation showcasing real-world application of Challenger Valves products
  • On-time delivery within a tight construction schedule
