Our combined Confined Space and Breathing Apparatus course covers the skills and knowledge required for working under a permit, safe entry into confined spaces, while using breathing apparatus and atmospheric monitoring equipment to maintain air quality and a safe working environment.
Participants are guided through recognition of typical hazardous conditions relating to confined spaces including; oxygen depletion, combustible atmospheres and atmospheric contaminants. Armed with the knowledge to identify potential hazards, participants learn how to assess a task, control the hazards and develop and implement safe work practices.
Each participant is provided with the opportunity to become comfortable wearing breathing apparatus in controlled conditions, before learning to work in darkness, noisy and smoke filled confined space environments. Practical training includes search and rescue exercises to allow participants to apply and develop relevant skills.

Learners cover the duties of confined space operators, standby personnel and rescue crews all of these are presented in a combination of classroom and practical activities.
Prospective participants in this combined refresher course are people who already hold these competencies and are looking to have their skills and knowledge re-certified due to:
- Having gained their units for BA more than one year prior and their CSE units more than two years prior;
- Had their skills, knowledge and currency assessed more than one year for BA and two years ago for CSE;
- Have not worked in or around a confined space or used breathing apparatus for an extended period of time.

To be eligible for refresher training, all students must have completed confined space and breathing apparatus training course within the previous two years of the course date and be able to provide evidence they have these (or equivalent) units of competency.
Students will require a cleanly shaven face in order to complete the practical elements of the Breathing Apparatus training course.
The standard (AS 1715-2009) outlines in depth the policy around facial hair and includes a diagram where students are to be clean shaven / side burns length.
As we are a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) our participants will be awarded a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment on the successful completion of the training and assessment for this course.
The unit of competency covered in this course is:
MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
(this unit is a pre-requisite for MSMPER205)
MSMPER205 Enter confined space
MSMWHS100 Follow WHS procedures
MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus
Industry recommends that refresher training for Breathing Apparatus should be completed annually and Confined Space Entry should be completed every two years.
