Course Overview

Our combined Confined Space, Breathing Apparatus and CPR course covers the skills and knowledge required for working under a permit, safe entry into confined spaces while using breathing apparatus and atmospheric monitoring equipment to maintain air quality and a safe working environment. It also provides the learner with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that are required to respond to an unconscious, non-breathing person.

Participants are guided through recognition of typical hazardous conditions relating to confined spaces including; oxygen depletion, combustible atmospheres and atmospheric contaminants. Armed with the knowledge to identify potential hazards, participants learn how to assess a task, control the hazards and develop and implement safe work practices.

Each participant is provided with the opportunity to become comfortable wearing breathing apparatus in controlled conditions, before learning to work in darkness, noisy and smoke filled confined space environments. Practical training includes search and rescue exercises to allow participants to apply and develop relevant skills.

Learners cover the duties of confined space operators, standby personnel and rescue crews all of these are presented in a combination of classroom and practical activities.

The Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation portion of this course designed to teach CPR in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Guidelines and assess that the attendee has sufficient confidence to know when and how CPR should be applied. CPR is an essential skill that has allowed regular people to save the lives of family, friends, colleagues and strangers.

People should receive training in the combined confined space, breathing apparatus and CPR course if they:

  • Design, modify or conduct works on or in confined spaces
  • Are involved in processes to identify or conduct risk assessments on confined spaces
  • Enter or work within confined spaces
  • Undertake the role of the standby person
  • Participate in confined space rescue or emergency responses
  • Enter into high risk atmospheric environments
